1. Narrative description of the Prop 28 arts education program(s) funded. (2500 character limit).
In 2024–2025, TUSD expanded Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) opportunities districtwide, growing to 8.5 full-time equivalent arts teachers and increasing course access at every grade level. More than 16,000 students across elementary, middle, and high school benefitted from enhanced arts opportunities supported by AMS funds. In total, during the 2024-2025 school year the district invested $2,255,248.92 in staffing, course expansion, equipment, and program enhancements during the year. At the elementary level, students continued to receive weekly music instruction, and an AMS committee met to determine the next focus area. The committee recommended a coordinated emphasis on visual arts, with new opportunities (including arts-based field trips, assemblies, and an Artist-in-Residence program) planned for implementation in 2025–2026. Middle schools broadened elective offerings by adding new sections at various sites in Video Production, Digital Media, Orchestra, Drama/Musical Theater, Art, and Fine Arts. In addition, after-school clubs were expanded to include Photography Club, Dance Club, Drama Club, Art Club, and Spirit Club, providing students with extended opportunities for creativity and collaboration beyond the school day. High schools increased capacity in high-demand VAPA courses and added new options, including Music and Sound Production, Photography, Beginning Instruments, AP Music Theory, Advanced Ceramics, and Dance. Looking forward, two high schools are preparing to launch a Video Game Design course in 2025–2026 to further expand student pathways in media arts and technology. Across all levels, existing VAPA programs received targeted AMS funds to purchase new equipment, instruments, and supplies. These investments were guided by staff and community input and ensured alignment with the California Arts Standards, with opportunities across all five disciplines: Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, and Media Arts. Through these efforts, TUSD continues to provide equitable access and high-quality arts experiences for all students while strategically planning for expanded offerings in the years ahead.
